Bringing nature closer and naming environmental problems: On Thursday, October 31st, the “Earth in Focus” was once again in the Roxy Cinema. “The Fox and the Girl” and “Wonder World Vegetable Garden” were shown for primary school students, and “The Value of Things” for upper school students. In the evening the curtain was raised for “Plasticfantastic”.
This time there were over 300 children and young people who, thanks to numerous sponsors, were able to enjoy a free visit to the cinema: “In Wunderwelt Vegetable Garden”, organic farming provides exciting habitats for many small and large animals. In the second film, the protagonist has to realize that although she can approach a fox with persistence and patience, it will always remain a wild animal. In “The Value of Things,” the high school students got to know young adults who can at least partially implement their project – namely, redesigning sustainable materials, using earthen buildings to reduce the carbon footprint of construction, and people through political commitment to move.
Still a lot to do
The stirring documentary “Plasticfantastic” was preceded by an insightful round of discussions: Markus Tonner, CEO of innorecycling AG, Eschlikon, Tobias Luchsinger, director of the film “The Value of Things” and Silvana Lucchini, clothing bar Romanshorn, spoke on the topic of the day “Precious raw materials”. Answer. Plastic is also a valuable raw material and collecting it makes sense, as 65% of the collected goods are turned into granules and reused, says Tonner. Lucchini talked about the successful business model, as many very beautiful clothes are brought and can be passed on. And Luchsinger said that sustainable approaches to film productions are now being introduced. And despite successfully implemented projects, the film on the topic of “Plastic, Plastics” clearly showed “that there is still a lot to do.”
