The weather scene has changed with the cold becoming more noticeable every day. The temperature has dropped quite a bit in the last few days and according to the meteorologists the rains are coming.
“Finally, the anti-cyclone obstacle seems to be leaving” taking the rain with it, says meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafillias in a new post, while Klearchos Marousakis also speaks of bad weather coming from the west and bringing rain.
“From next week, and as we move towards the middle of the month, the first rains are expected, after several weeks of drought,” says Yiannis Kallianos in his post.
Which areas will be at the center of the rains?
In particular, G. Tsatrafylias notes that the rains will come from Monday and appear to be more in western Greece from Wednesday onwards. Then there will be south winds, dust, humidity and the temperature will rise.
On his part, Kl. Marousakis predicts that western Greece will initially be at the center of the rainfall followed by other geographical areas.
“The anticyclone that was “preventing” rainfall in the country is gradually starting to “weaken”, and thus we will see expected weather phenomena with rainfall after November 11-12, but it has not yet been clarified whether they will be strong or not, or whether affect a large part of the country or only some areas, since we still have several days ahead of us. Also, the temperature will show a slight drop from the coming weekend onwards”, characteristically notes Yiannis Kallianos on Facebook.
In detail, the prognosis of G. Chatraphyllia
“Significant Clues to Light in the Anombria Tunnel…”
“With north winds and more cold, the next few days will roll by, but I won’t hide from you in the new week there seems to be weather movement in our area which will bring rains. At last, the anticyclone Bastakas seems to finally do us a favor and from Monday it will allow the passage of rains in our area. The rains seem to be more in western Greece from Wednesday onwards. Then there will be south winds, dust, humidity and the temperature will rise. P.S.: In the next 24 hours I will inform you about the place and time of occurrence of the phenomena (rain-snow)”, the meteorologist writes in his post.
Clearchos Marousakis’ prognosis in detail
ANTI-CYCLONE “CRASHES IN”, THE RAINS ARE COMING
For more than a month, the field of high barometric pressure managed to endure and close the road to bad weather, resulting in intense rain in our country, which reminded us of images from the early 90s, when our country also experienced an intense – prolonged period of drought – no rain. The only thing that reminded us of our departure from the summer months were the north winds and the drop in temperature that they caused, although at the beginning of their action the atmospheric circulation that caused them was reminiscent of the meltdowns of August 15.
Perhaps we would not have stood so much in this period of anombria since if we go back into the past we will find quite similar periods. But what makes us emphasize this arid period so much is the absence of the previous autumn – winter, where unfortunately they left a big water gap behind them both because of the lack of rainfall but mainly because of the absence of snowfall in our mountains and which snow occupies a primary position in the pyramid of the water table.
For now the weather page seems to be turning with the atmospheric circulation changing as the anticyclone seems to be quite disorganized in the next 24 hours constantly receiving pressures from colder air invading from its eastern northeastern edges.
So a disturbance in the higher layers of the atmosphere as depicted in our first map with blue shades, will be the beginning of the weather change changing the flow of traffic and opening the door after many days for bad weather to come to us now from the west, in other words to align the atmospheric circulation with the time we are going through.
So on Sunday we will start to feel the first signs of the change in the atmospheric circulation while from the first days of the next week the rains will start to come.
Western Greece will initially be at the center of the rainfall followed by other geographical areas.
The next two maps show the atmospheric change on the one hand where with the letter “X” we observe the first organized barometric low from the west after some time, while on the other hand the rainfall expected at the beginning of the new week is shown.
Let’s hope this change lasts and doesn’t bring us catastrophic rains since November is famous for its dangerous rains especially when our seas hold quite large amounts of heat.
Have a nice rest of the day everyone!
The post of Yannis Kallianos
“FROM NEXT WEEK, PROBABLY, THE RAIN WE NEED WILL COME TOO
As I had predicted for several days, the weather is rolling calmly and steadily, without major upheavals. The sun prevails almost everywhere and the maximum temperatures reach 20-22°C. Although early in the morning and late in the evening it is cold to the point of freezing in the mountains (as I had prepared you), the feeling of temperature is quite pleasant at midday and ideal for autumn activities.
WHAT IS CHANGING FROM NEXT WEEK?
From next week, and as we move towards the middle of the month, the first rains are expected, after several weeks of drought. The anticyclone that was “preventing” rainfall in the country is gradually starting to “weaken”, and thus we will see expected weather phenomena with rainfall after November 11-12, but it has not yet been clarified whether they will be strong or not, or whether they will affect much of the country or only some areas, since we still have several days ahead of us. Also, the temperature will show a slight drop from next weekend onwards.
NO PREDICTIONS FOR CHRISTMAS FROM NOW ON
I have also been reading since this morning on the internet that the Christmas weather will not be mild. If you consider that after 8-9 days the weather forecast starts to show a chaotic character, you can imagine what this can mean for 50 days or so before Christmas. Obviously, no one can know from now what the weather will be like on those days.
Good afternoon, my dear friends.”
Von Karman eddies in the North Aegean
Impressive images were recorded on the morning of Thursday 07/11 by the European geostationary meteorological satellite of the third generation MTG-I1. The satellite data was processed by meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens.
The image below (Thursday 07/11/2024, 08:45) shows Von Karman vortex paths in the North Aegean.
How Von Karman Turbines Are Made – Where Did They Get Their Name?
These eddies, named after the engineer Von Karman, are created on the leeward side of obstacles that interfere with the flow of atmospheric air.
In this particular case, the Von Karman eddies that appear in the area between Halkidiki, Lemnos and Sporades owe their creation to the interference of Samothraki and the high mountain of Saos (1,611 meters) in the strong northeast current that prevails in the area.
