Before leaving for London, Prince William spent a final day in South Africa where he attended the EarthShot awards ceremony. A last stopover that didn’t really go as planned.

We tend to say that this is part of the game, but Prince William would undoubtedly have done without the problem he encountered during his last day spent in South Africa. For several days now, the father of George (11 years old), Charlotte (9 years old) and Louis (6 years old) has been in the country on the occasion of the EarthShot awards ceremony which is close to his heart. But he obviously didn’t come just for that.
The prince set out to meet the populations to speak with them and get to know them better. He notably visited a national park to highlight the importance of preserving biodiversity. As a rugby fan, he also wanted to participate in training with schoolchildren from a school in Cape Town. A busy schedule which ended with a visit to Kalk Bay.
While there, Prince William enjoyed a broken fish lunch with members of the local community in the company of big stars like Heidi Klum who recently proved her status as Halloween queen. But, among the kind crowd, two demonstrators stood out and were not the most friendly with the prince. “Go home, you’re not welcome“, “William, you have no sovereignty of this country” could we read in particular on signs unveiled by the Hello site. Then it was the turn of certain fishermen to have expressed their dissatisfaction after William’s meeting with the creators of Abalobi, a finalist platform for ‘EarthShot allowing artisanal fishermen to regain a form of equity in access to resources.
Prince William kept his calm
Except that some of those involved in fishing would not have been included in the system, feeling abandoned and isolated, and would not even have been warned of the passage of the future king of England on their land: “We are excluded. William didn’t come to see our fish. No one told us the prince was coming. […] We are not angry with him. We want people to come here more often.”
Where some would surely have been destabilized and lost their means, Prince William knew how to maintain his calm and composure in the face of the situation. It must be said that this type of case occurs very regularly, particularly for members of monarchies. Recently, it was Letizia and Felipe VI of Spain who were taken to task after the deadly floods which affected the Valencia region…
