/ world today news/ The traffic police mobile cameras, whose operation has been suspended for a long time by the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC), will return to the road by the end of the week.
On Tuesday, the “State Gazette” published the regulation for the functioning of the devices, the lack of which was the last obstacle to the Traffic Police using them again. Before that, the Road Traffic Act was also amended. The ordinance enters into force three days after its promulgation, that is, on Friday.
According to the regulations, the Traffic Police will be able to take pictures only from official cars and motorcycles, writes in “Now”. Shooting from unmarked cars, which was the original option, was rejected. In order to comply with the decision of the SAC, it must be clear in which sections of the road are being photographed and there must be guarantees that the cameras are not tampered with. This means that any police car or motorbike in a designated area can have a camera to take pictures of passing cars. It is expected that there will be 148 cameras and they will be located in risky areas throughout the country.
The sections in question must be marked with the new video control sign – E24. An additional sign will be placed below it for the length of the monitored section if there are cameras in several places or if it is photographed from moving cars. The Ordinance also leaves the possibility for a portable road sign, i.e. Traffic police reserves the right to change the sections so that drivers do not learn them by heart. In these cases, the location of the sign must be photographed. However, it is not clear whether these signs have already been put up, as it is the responsibility of the road agency to install them.
The camera will shoot after the sign and after one that limits the speed. The Ministry of the Interior undertakes to announce these sections every day on its website, as well as through the media. Photography from a moving car or motorcycle is also allowed. In these cases, however, the device must also take into account the speed of the company car. In order to avoid abuse, detailed protocols will be made.
If a violation is detected while the traffic police vehicle is moving, the driver will be stopped on the spot and an act will be drawn up. The regulation prohibits the writing of slips.
The heads of the regional directorates must designate an officer who is responsible for the report of the cameras. The data on the recorded violations will be stored until the driver pays the fine imposed on him or until the case is closed if he appeals.
