On April 17, 2024, the Basel-Stadt cantonal police carried out a large-scale check against crime in public spaces with a large contingent, supported by various partner organizations. Details can be found in the media release dated April 18, 2024.
Since this major inspection was effective, another major inspection was carried out on November 6, 2024, as part of the “Trinational Security Day to combat crimes in public spaces”.
The SBB train station is an international hub for travel and is always a hotspot for various crimes. As part of this large-scale inspection, around 200 people were checked and twelve people were arrested for violating the Aliens and Integration Act or for forging IDs.
The Basel-City Canton Police were supported by partners from the Basel-Landschaft Police, the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security, the Basel-City Migration Office, the French Police aux frontières, the German Federal Police and the SBB Transport Police.
