Stellantis announces layoffs of 1,100 people in Ohio

Washington (EFE).- The automobile manufacturer Stellantis announced this Wednesday that it will indefinitely lay off in January approximately 1,100 people who work at the plant that produces Jeep brand vehicles in the American town of Toledo, in the state of Ohio.

Stellantis said it will eliminate one of the two work shifts at the plant, which produces the Jeep Gladiator pickup truck.

In a statement, he stated that he has been forced to make the “difficult decision” to “reduce high inventories through production management and thus meet sales objectives.”

Stellantis from falling income to layoffs in Ohio

The announcement of the layoffs comes a week after the manufacturer announced a sharp drop in its revenue and sales in the first nine months of the year.

The figures indicate that the turnover of the group made up of brands such as Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Chrysler and Alfa Romeo fell by 18% to 118 billion euros and that it marketed 4.02 million vehicles, a 13% drop. less than in the same period of 2023.

In the United States, sales of the Jeep brand have been suffering losses for several years. Compared to 2018 figures, the drop currently stands at 34% of sales.
