Like the sports club on his Website announced that Maximilian Heidenreich died “after a serious illness”. He spent the last weeks of his life with his family in Waldkirch. Maximilian Heidenreich was lured to Breisgau in 1992 by then SC coach Volker Finke. He came from FC Basel and still played on the offensive in Switzerland. In Germany, Heidenreich previously gained experience at TSV 1860 Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hannover 96. He stayed in Freiburg until 1997, played 173 professional games for the club and then played for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga for a year. Heidenreich ended his career in 1998/99 at SG Wattenscheid 09. His greatest success was third place in the Bundesliga with SC Freiburg in the 1994/95 season, which meant qualification for the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League).
The VfL Wolfsburg was also saddened by the news of his death and expressed his condolences to his family and all relatives.
