Minister of Labour, Astrid Panosyan-Bouvethe said this Wednesday in front of a parliamentary committee that labor inspectors are attacked every week. Events can be physical in nature, as well as verbal.
“Since my appointment, this is a fact that has marked me, not a week has passed without a physical, verbal, attack on labor inspectors, during their inspections with some kind of accommodation and patience in the opinion of the public that is completely unacceptable.e”, said the minister, who heard the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.
During the farmers’ protest movement in January, a wild boar was hanged in front of a labor inspection building in Agencausing a shift in the profession.
Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet, who answered a question from the Ecologist and MP of the social group Sophie Taillé-Polian as part of the study of the 2025 budget, acknowledged, “reduction in the number of labor inspectors in a decentralized service from 2017“which she attributed to retirement and the low number of candidates for the competitions.
“This situation is gradually improving thanks to a strong increase in competitive positions, a very strong use of staffing and activities to make the auditor’s role more attractive.“, explained the minister.
“We are focusing on keeping up with the delays“, she assured.
According to a report from the Court of Auditors published at the end of February, the number of job inspectors decreased by 16% between 2015 and 2021. There is a fall that has continued since then. There are now 1,691 full-time equivalents, compared to 1,748 two years ago (and 1,950 at the end of 2017), according to data from the General Directorate of Labor (DGT).
