The US Democratic presidential candidate, Donald Trump: What's behind the US President's Baltimore attack”>Kamala Harris, gave her first speech after the elections this Wednesday, in which she recognized the victory of her rival, Donald Trump, and promised a peaceful transition.
“We must accept the results of this election,” he warned. “The outcome of this election is not what we expected nor something we fought for,” he said in his speech at Howard University. “But listen to me: the light of the American promise will always burn bright as long as we don’t give up and keep fighting,” he added.
“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign,” Harris said. “I will never give up fighting for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams, ambitions and aspirations,” he said. The United States, he added, “will never give up the fight for its democracy.”
“People are feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now, I understand that. But we must accept the results of these elections,” he said. “It’s okay to feel sad and disappointed, but please know that everything is going to be okay,” Harris promised, addressing her supporters. “This is the thing, this is the thing: sometimes the fight takes a while,” he stressed.
“Today I spoke with the president-elect, [Donald] Trump, and I have congratulated him on his victory.” I have also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will participate in a peaceful transfer of power,” he said. The Democratic candidate urged her supporters to treat everyone with kindness and respect as they continue to fight for “fundamental rights and freedoms.”
“We will continue to fight this fight at the polls, in the courts and in the public square. And we will also deliver it in quieter ways: in how we live our lives, treating each other with kindness and respect; looking into the face of a stranger and seeing a neighbor; always using our strength to lift people up, to fight for the dignity that all people deserve,” he noted.
“The fight for our freedom will require hard work. But as I always say: We like hard work,” he said. “This is not the time to give up. It’s time to roll up your sleeves. It is time to organize, to mobilize and to remain committed for the sake of freedom and justice and the future that we all know we can build together,” the politician emphasized.
“Today my heart is full: full of gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, full of love for our country and full of determination,” he indicated.
He added: “There is a saying: only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. I know many people feel that we are entering a dark time. For everyone’s sake, I hope that’s not the case. But, America, if it were so, let us fill the sky with the light of a billion bright stars.”
He also specified; “May the light of optimism, faith, truth and service guide us, even in the face of setbacks, toward the extraordinary promise of the United States of America. May God bless you and may God bless the United States of America. I thank you all.”
Donald Trump was declared the winner after exceeding the margin of 270 electoral votes necessary to win these elections. According to the latest estimates, the politician has already obtained 292 Electoral College votes, which will allow him to return to the White House as the 47th president of the United States, after his inauguration on January 20. Meanwhile, Harris reaches 224 votes. (RT Information).
