LOST IN REFLECTION Personal exhibition of the artist Sasho Blazes edited by Silvio Pasqualini with critical text by Camilo Racana

Blue Gallery Dorsoduro district 3061, Venice The Blue Gallery of Venice is pleased to present “Lost in Reflection”a solo exhibition by artist Sasho Blazes, exploring the complexity of perception and reflection through a series of previously unpublished works. The exhibition will be open to the public from 7 November to 8 December 2024.

Blazes, in his artistic journey, has gone through several phases of transformation, marked by five main exhibitions in cities such as Berlin and Paris. “Lost in Reflection” represents a new chapter in this journey, focused on personal reflection and the disappearance of the portrait. “I removed three letters from my name, as a sign of a new beginning.”says the artist. This symbolic gesture represents its continuous evolution, in which the change of name marks the birth of a new identity but connected to the past.

In his most recent works, Blazes combines colouristic and monochromatic backgrounds overlaid with black strokes of abstract shapes, inspired by the various shadows of trees, branches, but also the light reflected from the surface of the water and refracted through the waves. This exploration of the natural environment is linked to his interest in the expressive capabilities of the medium and experimentation with materials such as Nylon, Aluminum and Plastic. The works represent an evocative escape from chaotic everyday life into the lyrically diffuse and tranquil shadows of the nocturnal landscape on the surface of the water. Through the layering of the surface, the artist reveals a hidden reality, pushing the viewer to look beyond the fragile membrane that separates the visible from the invisible.

Blazes’ works evoke the image of diving into a cold lake, to explore what lies beneath the surface. The underwater scenarios of Lake Ohrid, where the artist lives, become a mystical place, compared to the self, to the deepest emotions. “Diving to the bottom” it becomes a metaphor for inner exploration, a journey that leads to the discovery of the “voracious forms” and silhouettes that emerge from the depths, inhabitants of an upside-down world. These mysterious creatures, like white shadows immersed in a geometric universe, reflect the fragility and duality between what appears and what remains hidden.

According to Blazes, his work is a search for balance and meditation, an attempt at liberation from contemporary reality dominated by fear, prejudices and stereotypes. His canvases, painted as if they were in the abyss, are backlit by an ancestral light that emerges from the stirring of deep currents. “Lost in Reflection” it is an invitation to descend into the depths of our inner experiences, to discover the hidden pearls that can illuminate and transform our vision of the world.

Statement by the artist

In his most recent works, the artist combines colouristic and monochromatic backgrounds superimposed on black strokes of abstract shapes, inspired by the various shadows of trees, branches, but also by the light that reflects on the surface of the water and refracts through the waves laminate. At the same time, he particularly focuses on the expressive capabilities of the medium and on experimenting with different materials and bases (Nylon, Aluminium, Plastic). The works represent an escape from chaotic everyday life into the lyrically diffuse, expressive, playful, yet tranquil shadows of the night landscape on the surface of the water. In the context of his critical attitude towards reality, the surface of the image and its unveiling become starting points for a substantial and crucial exploration beneath the apparent essence of mass hysteria and the helpless position of human beings in a consumer society founded on fear, prejudice and stereotypes.

According to the author, he tries to find a place of escape, a sanctuary, a space of meditation and liberation from reality by immersing himself in the depths of the waters, searching for the abstract shadows of our reality. For him, living next to Lake Ohrid makes underwater scenarios a mystical place, which he compares to the self, to the regions of the deepest emotions, and “diving to the bottom” becomes a metaphor for the exploration of one’s most hidden interior spaces.
