Pau Cubarsí had to be substituted in the 67th minute of FC Barcelona‘s visit to Red Star Belgrade. The central defender set off all the alarms, since all his teammates immediately demanded medical assistance while asking for his change.
The young Barça defender was kicked in the face by Uroš Spajićnext to the mouth, when the Serbian team player was looking for the shot, while the Spaniard cleared the ball with his head. He crouched down and, at that moment, he received a hard impact that caused a gap. The television broadcast omitted any shots of medical care.
What injury does Cubarsi have?
The blow received by Cubarsí meant that he was sewn up and received around ten stitches. The center-back left the Rajko Mitić pitch on his own with plenty of blood. He went directly to the locker room tunnel.
After the match, Flick downplayed what happened, citing his player’s youth. “He’s fine. They put some stitches on him, but he’s young.” Shortly after the German coach’s appearance, Gavi shared a video on Instagram where Cubarsí’s battered face can be seen, although the video itself and the footballer’s smile in it are reassuring.
How many games can Cubarsi lose?
The chance incident occurs a few days before the last international break of the yearso the number of games that would be lost with Barça would be lower. All of this, of course, in case Cubarsí suffers any serious problem beyond those stitches. In any case, his presence against Real Sociedad is not ruled out (Sunday, November 10, 9:00 p.m.).
