What are the most precious objects in Hollywood and how high are the amounts paid for them?

Cinema not only leaves memories through its films, but also through objects that become relevant in Hollywood years after the success of a film. Several of them are worth millions of dollars and now a study has compiled the list of the most expensive and coveted goods by collectors, who are willing to invest the unimaginable to obtain them.

Pieces such as one of James Bond’s cars and the Star Wars robot R2-D2 – ‘Arturito’ dear – are some of the most valuable pieces that can be found on the auction market according to a new study organized by Public Desire.

Thanks to this, a compilation was made of the most expensive assets, which were exhibited in auction houses such as Sotheby’s, Profiles in History and Julien’s Auctions, until they reached the hands of their new owners.

Topping the list is James Bond’s iconic Aston Martin DB5 which was driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball (1964 and 1965 respectively). The legacy of agent 007 was such that for years he remained the standard pioneer of spy cars used on the big screen.

It sold in 2019 for $6.4 million dollars as the most expensive vehicle in Hollywood history.

Dozens of replicas were built over time to keep James Bond’s legacy alive.

Next, the legendary white dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in ‘The Seven Year Itch’ (1955), in which the diva appears standing on a sewer and the air lifts the wide and memorable skirt, was sold in 2011 for a sum of $5.6 million of dollars and became the most expensive item of clothing in history.

Third place goes to Robby, the robot from ‘Forbidden Planet’ (1956) which in 2017 was auctioned at Bonhams for almost $5.4 million dollars.

The specimen sought to give the audience the expectation of what a robot of the future could be and although modern technology surpassed it with robots that are currently capable of doing almost anything, at the time of the film it was seen as a symbol of science. Fascinating fiction.

Another unforgettable piece of Marilyn Monroe’s clothing is on the list, with the dress she wore during the Happy Birthday she sang to President JF Kennedy in 1962. The item sold for $4.8 million dollars and many rated the price for the combination of a historical event that mixed politics with entertainment, added to the rumors of the alleged never-confirmed romantic relationship between the two.

The dress has taken on greater prominence due to the link that supposedly existed between Marilyn Monroe and former President Kennedy.

Other pieces such as the Batmobile of the superhero from the Adam West series in 1960, sold for $4.6 million dollars or the Cowardly Lion suit and Dorothy’s ruby slippers in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939) were also part of the list.

Finally, ‘Arturito’ also revolutionized cinema by being crowned the most beloved robot in history, which made a collector pay $2.75 million dollars in 2017 thanks to the decades-long work that Kenny Baker did with his voice.

R2-D2 is still relevant in the new Star Wars trilogy, released in 2015 with ‘The Force Awakens’.
