England has a great choral tradition, and London has always been a center and attraction for many composers. These included German musicians such as Joseph Haydn and, above all, Georg Friedrich Handel, who thrilled audiences with his great oratorios such as Messiah, festival music and numerous operas.

However, the focus of this program – entitled “Very British” – is on pieces by the most famous English composers. Renaissance works by Thomas Tallis and William Byrd are evidence of music composed for the sonorous and magnificent cathedrals of England.

“Hear my Prayer, O Lord”, one of the most famous works by the baroque composer Henry Purcell, will be performed. Other compositions, some of which invite the audience to sing along, come primarily from the last two centuries.

The organ as an important instrument should not be missing from this program. Lukas Bauer and Simon Forberg, both studied church musicians, play appropriate works from English organ literature and accompany the ensemble.

An arrangement by Tilman Jäger on the old English folk song “Greensleeves” takes up many of these styles again and rounds off the varied and melodious program.
