A police officer charged with manslaughter after the shooting death of a 68-year-old man in central Greece was released on condition Wednesday.
The incident happened on Saturday morning in Kakoplevri countryside, a village near the town of Kalambaka, while the 68-year-old man was out picking wild edible greens and the police officer was out hunting with a group of friends.
He told the judge that he did not see the other man who was crouched close to the ground when he discharged his shotgun, accidentally hitting the 68-year-old.
This is the second such incident involving the same police officer following the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy in 2022 by another member of his hunting party.
Under the terms of his parole, he is not allowed to leave the country or hunt. He was suspended from duty after his arrest last week at the Trikala police station where he served,
