The Advertising Ethics Council has given Minttu Räikkönen a note about hidden advertising.
The remark concerns an Instagram update made by Räikkönen in July, in which he promotes Nescafé products. In the publication, Räikkönen drinks Nescafé and the caption reads “Summer’s coolest coffee is perfect for warm days @nescafe_fi #nescafefi”.
According to the council, the publication was not immediately recognizable as an advertisement, since the publication did not have an advertising identifier. The publication is therefore hidden advertising.
According to Räikkönen himself, it was a matter of forgetting, and he had later added the required information. Now the cooperation information is visible.
The council justifies its decision with the ICC marketing rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, which emphasize that the advertisement must be immediately recognizable as an advertisement.
