PAOLA (CS) – Respecting the rights of the suspects, who are to be considered innocent until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence, in order to guarantee the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of the press, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paola directed by the acting Prosecutor Dr. Ernesto Sassano, has closed the investigations against four people, residents in the province of Catania, respectively administrator and managers of a company operating in the field of solid urban waste collection within a municipality in the upper Tyrrhenian Sea.
In particular, their position is being examined by the magistrates of the Paola Prosecutor’s Office for crimes relating to safety in the workplace and forgery. These findings arose from the investigative activity carried out by personnel of the Paola Traffic Police, in collaboration with the Labor Inspectorate of Cosenza, from which it was possible to ascertain that the company’s employees did not have suitable premises to use as changing room and toilets which, although present, were at minimum levels of hygiene. Furthermore, the workers were not equipped with personal protective equipment aimed at preventing biological risk for the type of activity carried out, as well as preventing injuries during transport and collection on board vehicles.
From the investigation carried out, it was also ascertained that the training certificates relating to the attendance of courses for safety in the workplace had been falsely issued and one of the employers had induced the workers to confirm attendance of the courses training in case of control, in order to make the employer’s position appear regular, from a documentary point of view, to the detriment of the workers and the contracting public body.
The investigation is inspired by the control activities of the Paola Traffic Police within companies operating in the environmental and transport sectors.
