“Star Wars” fans who are currently waiting for a fourth season of “The Mandalorian” unfortunately have to make do without it, but the story of the two unlikely heroes will be continued in the cinema. Now the project took an important step.
After seven years of absence from the cinema, the “Star Wars” saga will return to the big screen in 2026 – this time with the series heroes Din Djarin and Grogu from “The Mandalorian”. Filming on the long-awaited blockbuster is now complete and its theatrical release has been set for May 21, 2026. After a long phase in which several film projects were announced and then rejected, fans are now looking forward to the franchise’s cinematic comeback.
Now that filming has been completed, there should be little doubt that the film will hit theaters in May 2026. The film will be the first “Star Wars” movie since “The Rise of Skywalker” (2019). Some important scenes were filmed in early summer to accommodate the busy schedule of Pedro Pascal, who plays Din Djarin. For the remaining scenes, actors Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder took on the iconic Mandalorian armor.
Parallel to the post-production of “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, there are already plans for another major Star Wars film project: James Mangold’s prequel “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi”. Mangold, best known for “The Wolverine,” recently announced that his project has progressed to the point where filming could begin in 2025. If “Dawn Of The Jedi” is completed on time, the film could be released on the still undetermined release date of December 17, 2026.
In addition, there are already initial plans for the following film: “Star Wars 10”, which is expected to be released in 2027 and continues Rey Skywalker’s story. While there was a recent setback with screenwriter Steven Knight leaving the project, if a replacement is found quickly, the film could still be ready in time for its scheduled theatrical release on December 15, 2027.
