This founding trilogy of superheroes in cinema can be found now on the Max streaming platform.
At a time not so long ago, superhero films did not have the same popularity as those of today. It was in the early 2000s that comic book adaptations began to achieve success. Thus, the era of superheroes opened at this time with the release of the X-Men film.
Another Marvel saga allowed superheroes to become popular. This is the Spider-Man trilogy directed by Sam Raimi, starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane.
These three films also allowed emblematic comic book villains to appear: the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Venom (Topher Grace)…
One of the best superhero films of all time
This trilogy is designed as a Peter Parker origin story. The first film sees the latter obtain his arachnid powers and discover the responsibilities that entails. The second part gives rise to introspection of his role as a superhero, and the third to an identity crisis when new powers corrupt his vigilante personality.
The first Spider-Man is the best rated by AlloCiné Internet users (4 out of 5). But generally speaking, the second film is considered the most successful of the three, and is generally included in the rankings of the best superhero films of all time.
Sam Raimi seems to have found the perfect balance, between the great spectacle aspect and a plot close to his characters.
Despite its superheroic dimension, the particularity of this trilogy is to have remained as realistic as possible. In all three films, Peter Parker faces financial difficulties. His dual identity as a superhero also means he has to stay withdrawn from those close to him, and in particular from Mary Jane.
No fourth Spider-Man, but a crossover film!
The third opus is unanimously considered the worst of the saga. The fault is a feeling of too much, and too many bad guys (three in total). Originally, Sam Raimi did not want to have Venom appear in this part, but the decision was imposed on him by production.
The failure of the film at the box office buried the fourth film project. This new part, which had nevertheless entered the preparation phase, could have seen the Vulture or the Lizard appear as the main villain.
A few years after the release of Spider-Man 3, a reboot allowed Andrew Garfield to become Spider-Man for two films. Then, the role was then given to Tom Holland, hero of his own trilogy. But the three interpreters of Peter Parker had the opportunity to cross paths in one and the same adventure, during the film Spider-Man No Way Home.
Sony Pictures Three Spider-Mans for the Price of One in No Way Home!
These three Spider-Man do not, however, appear in the official MCU timeline, and are not the property of Disney but of Sony Pictures. For this reason, the trilogy is not available on Disney+, but instead joins the catalog of a competing streaming service, Max, from this Wednesday, November 6.
