The King of Spain, Felipe VI, has stated that he understands the “anger” and “frustration” of the many people affected by DANA, after several angry people from an affected Valencian municipality received the royal family and other authorities with insults and mud will be thrown at them during their visit.
“We must understand the anger and frustration of many people because of how badly they have had it, because of the difficulty of understanding how all the mechanisms work and the operation of responding to the emergency,” he said during his speech when presiding over a meeting at the Center of Integrated Operational Coordination (CECOPI) of the Valencian Community.
In this sense, he insisted on the need not only to provide emergency aid to those affected, but also to “give them hope.” «I know these are exhausting days. There are no hours, there are no minutes. And there is a lot of need to address,” he concluded, after thanking “the enormous contribution of people of all kinds.”
This Sunday, enraged residents of the municipality of Paiporta, considered ‘ground zero’ of the deadly floods caused by DANA, reacted violently to the visit of the kings of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia; the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and that of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, shouting insults and throwing sticks and balls of mud. One of these hit the queen, while the entourage tried to protect themselves with umbrellas.
