A big victory for the Republicans – the “Black Nazi” lost, a trans woman makes history –

Iltalehti compiled the most interesting excerpts from US elections other than the presidential election.

Along with the US presidential election, Americans have also voted for the House of Representatives and about a third of the Senate. A total of 11 states and two territories have voted for governor, and there were also numerous state and local elections on Tuesday.

In the soon-to-end two-year term, the upper house of the US Congress, or the Senate, was as little as possible under the control of the Democrats, as the situation in the senatorial seats was exactly 50-50 between the Democrats and the Republicans. The vice president is the president of the senate, so Kamala Harris turned the tables on her party.

According to all preconceived notions, the Senate is now turning to the Republicans, and among the major news channels, Fox News was the first to announce that this would also happen. Fox News published its own forecast a little before seven in the morning Finnish time.

The first sign of the Senate transition to a Republican majority was the expected victory of Jim Justice in West Virginia. The seat previously belonged to Democrat Joe Manchin, who was no longer running.

Democrats hoped for the defeat of unpopular Republican Senator Ted Cruz in Texas, but Texans voted for Cruz’s six-year extension in the Senate.

Also the sitting senator, the Democrat Sherrod Brown lost the election in Ohio to the Republicans Bernie Morenolle. This further strengthens the Republicans’ positions of power in the Senate.

Transwoman to Congress

One of the most interesting results when it comes to the lower house of Congress, or the House of Representatives, is a Democrat Sarah McBriden victory in Delaware. McBride is making history by becoming the first trans person elected to the House of Representatives.

– Tonight is a demonstration to Delawareans that we are a fair state where voters evaluate candidates based on their ideas and not their identities, McBride commented after securing his victory.

Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, who represent the extremes of the Republican Party, have both renewed their seats. Boebert represents Colorado’s 4th congressional district and Taylor Greene represents Georgia’s 14th congressional district.

An even battle between Republicans and Democrats is expected for control of the House of Representatives.

The “Black Nazi” lost

During the fall, Iltalehti has covered the Republican Party on a couple of occasions Mark Robinsonistawho ran for governor in North Carolina. Torn by numerous scandals, Robinson lost the election to the Democrats To Josh Stein.

Robinson found himself in the middle of a huge uproar when his old writings, both behind pseudonyms and under his own name, on his Facebook page came to light. In his writings, Robinson characterized himself, among other things, as a black Nazi and quoted Adolf Hitler.

Among several articles considered offensive, he characterized women who ended up having abortions by saying that they were not “responsible enough to keep their skirts down”.

Stein positioned herself as a moderate Democrat and labeled Robinson as too extreme a candidate who is divisive and totally unqualified to be governor.

The governor of North Carolina is currently a Democrat Roy Cooperwho could no longer apply for the next season.

The story will be updated as the vote counting progresses.
