On the one hand we have the Core Ultra 9 285K, which aims for better efficiency compared to the previous generation; while on the other hand the Ryzen 9 7950X3D once again confirms itself as one of the most valid CPUs in the PC Gaming field.
Intel introduced its new “Arrow Lake” CPUs at the end of 2024, together with the LGA-1851 socket, which should allow higher performance than the previous generation thanks to the increase in the number of pins.
Among these new proposals, the Core Ultra 9 285K stands out, designed to offer a clear improvement in terms of power and efficiency.
The evolution of this generation seems to aim not only at pure power, but also at a more intelligent use of resources to optimize efficiency.

Video review
For further details on the innovations of this new generation from the blue house, here is our review of the Core Ultra 9 285K.
Productivity tests
Starting from 3D Mark CPU, we can see how the new top of the range from the blue house is at the top of the ranking, with the Ryzen 9 7950X3D struggling in the penultimate position.
Moving on to Cinebench 2024, the Core Ultra 9 shows all its power, especially in the multi core test, outclassing the X3D version of the 7950.
Moving on to a test closer to the daily use of a processor, we have 7-Zip File Manager, with the Core Ultra 9 285K slipping into the second half of the scoreboard and the 7950X3D defending itself rather well; probably thanks to the greater number of threads and the 3D V-cache.
Benchmark AI
OpenVINO is an open source software toolkit for optimizing and deploying deep learning models. It allows programmers to develop scalable and efficient AI solutions with relatively few lines of code.
Benchmark gaming
As for gaming, at the moment the Core Ultra 9 apparently fails to give its best, as we can see in the Black Myth Wukong and CyberPunk 2077 tests.

Intel Core Ultra 9 285K: price and availability
With a launch price of $589, the blue house option seems affordable compared to AMD’s top of the range, which currently costs around €670. However, the choice also depends on the platform you use.
If we already have a compatible AM5 motherboard ready to support the Ryzen 9, it may not be convenient to switch to Intel, since in addition to the cost of the processor, we would also have to buy a new motherboard, given that Intel has changed socket and chipset compared to the generation previous.
From a performance perspective, the Core Ultra 9 285K demonstrated good capabilities, especially in multicore calculations, which is essential for many tasks.
This processor stands out for its power and can be an interesting option for those who need high performance. Therefore, AMD represents a good choice for those who want to stay on the AM5 platform, while Intel offers a valid alternative for those who are ready to invest in a new configuration.
