a young man sentenced in Villefranche-sur-Saône

When the best friend becomes a blackmailer.

The dispute between the two friends dates back to an evening where, after lending his vehicle, the accused found it damaged in a field. A compensation agreement of 1,000 euros was made to repair the damage, specifies Progressbut the young man ultimately loses his job after having to report the accident to his employer. Angry, he then demanded 5,000 euros from his “best friend” and, faced with his refusals, threatened to publish intimate photos of his partner fraudulently retrieved from his Snapchat account.

It was a complaint filed last September which put an end to the blackmail. The court convicted the accused of invasion of privacy and fraudulent use of a personal account. The man, aged 20, was sentenced by the Villefranche-sur-Saône criminal court to a fine of 500 euros and 140 hours of community service.

In addition to his fine and community service hours, he is banned from any contact with the victim for two years. In the event of non-compliance with his obligations, the blackmailer faces up to one month in prison.
