Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at a meeting of the Council for the Support of the Russian Language and Other Languages of the Peoples of Russia, broadcast by the TV channel “Russia 24”that in his family none of his relatives ever swore.
“But in Russia, the common people didn’t particularly use strong words. I can tell from my family. I have never heard anything like this from my father, much less from my mother. Never at all. And I know that my grandfather and grandmother behaved the same way,” said the leader of the country.
According to him, Orthodox people at the beginning of the last century considered the use of swear words a sin.
“But who among you is without sin?” noted Russian leader.
Also at the meeting, Putin spoke critically in relation to representatives of the elite who use swear words to show their closeness to the people. He noted that swearing is part of the Russian language, and its frequent use can be combated only by improving general culture.
Before that Putin supported the idea of introducing scholarships for teachers of Russian language and literature abroad. The President said that citizens of other states who teach the Russian language and promote Russian culture abroad are often in difficult conditions, so the scholarship will be very useful for them.
Previously Putin initiated revision of the Law on Languages of the Russian Federation.
