The police searched and seized the office of the civil organization Candlelight Action, which continues with a rally calling for the resignation of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
It’s been about a month since we received information about about 6,000 people through a search and seizure of a member information management company in late September.
The police explained that the search and seizure was carried out to compare the information received from the company with the member list maintained by the Candlelight Movement.
At first, they said they would take CCTV footage from around the office to find out if evidence had been destroyed, but the court opposed this.
Police said that since September 2021, the Candlelight Movement has been holding rallies online and in Jung-gu and Yongsan, Seoul, collecting donations from as little as 40 million won to up to 1.8 billion that was won every year ‘break the Grant Act’ to win more than 10 million that was won without the plan being published.
On the other hand, the Candlelight Movement denied that it was illegal because most of the money raised as taxes were voluntarily paid by members.

“This type of search and seizure was a real investigation and was unique in that the materials previously submitted and seized were sufficient to prove…the evidence was not required to destroy.”
Police have repeatedly said they cannot “disclose specific investigative matters to the outside world.”
