A UAA teacher creates scale molds to work on different female morphologies within fashion design

The Autonomous University of Aguascalientes offers options to its teaching and research staff to promote their academic work, one of which is projects carried out during a sabbatical year.

The UAA Teaching Staff Sabbatical Regulations state that “the primary purpose of the academic provision of the sabbatical year is to enable the professor, with the right to enjoy it, to carry out quality projects of institutional interest and to enable professional development of those interested in the matter. “.

In that sense, Ms. Margarita Infante Torres, assigned to the Department of Fashion Design in Clothing and Textiles of the Center for Design and Construction Sciences (CCDC), carried out two works under this scheme.

One of them arose from the academic needs of the subject “woman” 5th semester, in which students work on female morphology. “We always have the ideal mannequin, the morphology has more models. “

In the fashion industry, five molds or models are used. The teacher, with her research work, worked on more morphologies and more scales, obtaining a total of 36 prototypes.

Mrs. Ph. Infante said that sketching on paper is not the same as doing it with the shape of a figure as support, so with these creations, students will have the models for any project they want to do.

These figures were created from scratch, first the ceramic molds were made; The cartapesta method was used (placing several layers of soft paper with a mixture of glue and water on the surface to give it a three-dimensional shape) and they were covered with more clay, which was polished and a velvet lycra layer was added. until it fits well.

For the UAA professor, complaints show again that fashion is only made for certain morphologies, which is why, from her trench, she tries to meet the needs of all types of groups . “I hope the material will be used in classes and projects, no institute has these models. For us as teachers, we care about classes and workshops, these are our places for creativity and we want to work in the best way,” said the teacher.
