Due to the rehabilitation of the facilities, a minimum of 50% savings in irrigation water will be achieved, which is good because of the ongoing reduction by the eco-ministry of irrigation flows
“Irrigation Systems” EAD announced today that all necessary measures have been taken for the rehabilitation of the irrigation facilities of the Ticha, Koprinka, Zhrebchevo, Domlyan, Topolnitsa and Pyaschanik dams, for which, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, “if the trend is maintained for a small inflow it is troublesome to provide the irrigation for irrigation 2025 season“. The water savings expected by the company have also been achieved for the mentioned dams.
“Irrigation Systems” EAD for each irrigation season conforms its requests to the requirements of the MoEW, so that the water table from the dams is used in accordance with the Water Law.
“We believe that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications complies with and strictly implements the provisions of the Law regarding priority satisfaction, namely: in the first place, requests for drinking and household purposes, after them for treatment and prevention (only for mineral waters), in third place follow requests for agricultural purposes, then requests for the exploitation of geothermal resources, and lastly for other purposes, including industrial purposes, recreation and hydropower,” the company said.
Currently, “Irrigation Systems” EAD is continuing the rehabilitation of 19 sites, restoring sections of the main irrigation canals and pumping stations that have not undergone major repairs for more than 60 years.
These investments will help save water by a minimum of 50%.
Procedures for the rehabilitation of 41 new sites are underway, and the same will be financed again with European funds from the Strategic Plan for the Development of Agriculture.

Regardless of the smaller available quantities of water in previous years and the reduced requests with necessary water volumes, which “Irrigation Systems” EAD submits to the MoEW for approval, the irrigation seasons have ended successfully. Water has not had to be supplied in the conditions of deficit, and the dams have accumulated the necessary water volume for subsequent seasons. The period of the year from November to May is the time of autumn-winter and spring high water, which forms the main part of the inflow to the dams.
If insufficient water volume is registered in the irrigation dams for the 2025 irrigation season, “Irrigation Systems” EAD is ready to conduct an information campaign with farmers, during which they will specify and refine the schedules for the distribution of the water resource.
