In the two large eastern Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Thurgau, the unemployment rates did not change in October compared to the previous month. Appenzell Innerrhoden recorded the lowest value. The unemployment rate in eastern Switzerland is consistently below the Swiss average of 2.5 percent.
In the canton of St. Gallen, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.8 percent in October. 9,718 job seekers were registered at the regional employment centers (RAV). This compares to 2,641 vacancies, as the Department of Economic Affairs announced on Tuesday.
For November 2024, 49 companies with 2,470 employees in the canton of St. Gallen have pre-registered for short-time work. In a long-term comparison, this is “still a high value”. Companies in industry and manufacturing from all regions of the canton are affected.
In the canton of Thurgau, the unemployment rate in October was the same as in September at 2.2 percent. 6,402 people were looking for a job – 152 more than in the previous month.
In Appenzell Ausserrhoden the unemployment rate remained at 1.4 percent. As in previous months, Appenzell Innerrhoden recorded the lowest value in Switzerland: the unemployment rate there was 0.7 percent (+0.1 percent).
