Huge failure upon release, this science fiction film has finally found its audience and you can see it at home – Cinema News

Down at the box office, the science fiction film led by Adam Driver “65 – The Land Before” is rediscovered by Prime Video subscribers.

Released in France in March 2023 to general indifference, the science fiction film 65 – The Land Before is a very effective science fiction film which was quite attacked upon its release and was a flop at the box office. office. However, it deserves to be seen and appeals to subscribers of the Prime Video streaming platform, who are giving it another chance.

A rediscovered flop

Produced by Sam Raimi, 65 – The Before Earth sees Mills (Adam Driver) travel from the planet Somaris (where he leaves his wife and daughter) to deep space, in order to explore the galaxy. Along the way, an asteroid field causes his ship to crash and his crew to die. He then discovers an uncharted planet on which dinosaurs live… and a young survivor who does not speak his language.

The film is directed by the duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who signed the pleasant Haunt (2019) and wrote the film Without a Sound (2018), which enjoyed some success leading to sequels and even a prequel, released this year at the cinema.

The fact is, however, that their science fiction film with dinosaurs did not find its audience at all. With a budget of 45 million dollars, 65 – La Terre d’avant only collected 60.7 million worldwide, and barely more than 300,000 admissions in France. Marketing almost absent, title not really telling, a headliner with a familiar face thanks to his presence in the last Star Wars trilogy but with a name not yet really identified by the general public… Many factors played into these poor results at the box office.

But since its presence on Prime Video which allowed it to find a new audience, 65 – The Land Before entered the Top 10 most viewed films on the platform last October and the film deserved it because it fulfills its promise, providing well-packaged entertainment and collected in 1h30. And that is becoming rare these days.
