The 16th season of “Bergretter” will be shown on ZDF from November 7th on Thursdays at 8:15 p.m. and can also be seen in advance in the ZDF media library. Luise Bähr has been playing the role of Katharina Strasser for ten years? first a paramedic, then a paramedic.
From birth in the gondola to picks in the leg
The fictitious emergencies were varied: “A birth in a gondola, numerous pneumo-thoracics, fractures of all kinds, dislocated shoulders, cardiac arrest, amnesia and picks in the leg. A caesarean section in the mountains was complex and we simulated it with a cut into a pork belly.” But the most spectacular thing was the rescue of the series character Markus Kofler. According to the script, Kofler – played by Sebastian Ströbel – was buried in an avalanche and suffered respiratory arrest. “Some people would probably have liked to swap with me for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation,” said Bähr and laughed.
The filming team has been working hand in hand with real Austrian mountain rescuers for years, explained Bähr. Filming would be unthinkable without these real professionals. «We see ourselves as a big team and real friendships have developed in the meantime. But when we frantically rush to the rescue in the series, it’s only to create drama and tension. The real mountain rescuers are calm personified, no matter what happens, said the 45-year-old. In addition to the climbing skills, that was the most important thing she learned from them: “No matter what the situation, to keep calm and a cool head. Especially when things get hectic or difficult, it’s important to take a deep breath, stay with yourself and act from a place of calm. Helps in almost all situations in life.”
