Seven people are running to become presidential candidates in the Republic of Belarus in the 2025 elections. This was reported by Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Igor KARPENKOtransmitting BELT.
“In total, 11 applications were submitted to the CEC. We have registered 7 campaign groups. Four were rejected for various reasons. An incomplete package of documents was provided. In addition, for some, the number of members of the campaign group was less than provided by law, after checking the accuracy of the information provided. There were some cases where dead citizens were included. There were citizens with inaccurate data in their last names and passport details. First, one of the candidates did not have a very large list – 115 names, and when 39 were rejected, in this case it was not possible to register,” said the head of the CEC.
Campaign groups will collect 7 signatures in support of their candidates (The listing is by last name in alphabetical order. – Approx.):
- head of the Union of Belarusian Officers Sergei Bobikov;
- leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, deputy head of the lower house of parliament Oleg Gaidukevich;
- individual entrepreneur Anna Kanopatskaya;
- Current President Alexander Lukashenko;
- head of the Communist Party of Belarus Sergei Syrankov;
- head of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice of Belarus Alexander Khizhnyak;
- Head of the Main Directorate of Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee Olga Chemodanova.
According to the CEC, the collection of voters’ signatures in support of the nomination of presidential candidates will take place between November 7 and December 6 inclusive. Citizens nominate a presidential candidate by collecting signatures of at least 100 thousand voters The presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for January 26, 2025.
