After opening the folding smartphone segment in 2019, Samsung rolled out its range of folding smartphones Galaxy Z Fold et Galaxy Z Flip by improving them little by little.
Over the years, several difficulties have emerged. The Korean brand’s folding smartphones are evolving marginally and the effect of surprise or novelty is weakening from year to year, competition is strengthening with ambitious models, although still limited by price and availability, and the Buyers of folding smartphones are mainly those in a renewal market.
Those who have bought it for the first time come back easily but it remains difficult to attract a new audience, particularly because of the price. Hence the rumors of the preparation of more affordable folding smartphones at Samsung.
In the absence of a Galaxy Z Fold FE, a Z Flip FE?
A first hypothesis around a Galaxy Z Fold FE (Fan Edition) came to nothing this year and it is now that of a Galaxy Z Flip FE which emerges for 2025.
The smartphone starts at just over €1000, the price of a classic premium smartphone and it could therefore be interesting to lighten the configuration to make it more attractive for wallets and thus generate the volume which is running out of steam with the standard Galaxy Z series.
Representatives of Samsung would have mentioned this idea to journalists during the presentation of the group’s financial results, without indicating whether it is only a supposition or a real proposal for next year.
New folding formats in 2025?
The rumor comes in addition to those who want the Korean giant to prepare a smartphone that folds in three to respond to the Huawei Mate XT and/or a smartphone with a stretchable display.
In both cases, these two potential models would remain in a very high-end category that is interesting for brand image but not so much for sales.
