With 7 minutes left until the end, Neckarsulm took the lead with a 28-24 lead, but was unable to score a goal and Göppingen followed up with one goal at a time, leading to a tense situation.
To make matters worse, Munia Smits was sent off for two minutes in a row, receiving a red card and being sent off. Göppingen trailed to 28-27 with 34 seconds left, but Neckarsulm held on to one goal until the end and achieved a dramatic victory.
“I’m very happy to get two points today,” Neckarsulm coach Thomas Zeitz told Bundesliga. It showed how much our team fought to win the derby. “We had some disappointments in defense in the first half, but we got better towards the end of the game and I think we ended up with a deserved win.”
