Like many miseriest The city of Trondheim cannot afford it and it affected the students of the Ila school.
Last spring, the city of Trondheim said we should get a new climbing frame. The student council at the school was asked to find a suitable one. The town set aside money for it, but in September we found out that we didn’t get it after all and that the money was used for something else. NOK 70,000 was set aside for the climbing frame, but the city chose to prioritize something else. Then many people became frustrated at Ila’s school. Not only do we want something new and fun, but the mounting frame we have now is not very good. It is old and worn and chips easily. The town has said that they will update the climbing frame, but that is not good enough when we were promised a new climbing frame that many were looking forward to.
In the spring, the student council went around to all the classes and told them that we were going to get a new climbing frame, but in the fall the student council had to go around again do and say there would be no mounting frame. After all. Many were very disappointed. Some were sad and some were angry.
But we weren’t just promised a new mounting frame.
We stayed too promised to park new bikes, but that didn’t happen either. The bike parking we have now is too small and not very good, and there are many who have experienced the bikes being used and destroyed by others.
We ask what is more important than children being happy at school and having a good and safe place to play. The Ila school is an old school that was founded in 1770, so it is fair that the town prioritizes keeping the school as it is? In the newspaper we read that the city of Trondheim will give another 7 million to the Ski WC. That means there is money! Just a little bit of that money would have given us a proper mounting frame and bike parking.
We hope that those who decide in the city of Trondheim will read this and think twice. We have learned that you have to keep what you promise!
