After working in several jobs, Haykel became a VTC driver in 2021 in Toulouse and continues to see his income decrease despite unlimited days .
“€212 for 39 hours of connection last week; €191 the previous week for 28 hours; €0 for 2pm; €456 for 36 hours…” On the screen of his mobile phone, 44-year-old Haykel from Toulouse scrolls through his income as a VTC driver for the last month and no the account there. Far from it. Especially since he, like many of his colleagues, has just invested in an electric car – what the platforms want him to do – a black Tesla Y that cost €48,000 and was he is in debt “accused of kickback.”
But today, this driver, who took part in the Toulouse show this Monday, who has just joined FO, does not see how he can get out of it.
“My health for hips”
Haykel, a former cableman in the aviation industry, after several jobs, mainly in construction, nevertheless believed he had found a job that suited him. “I had imported cars. And I liked it. During Covid, I took my test. » And since 2021, he has been working as a VTC. Disabled, his vehicle was modified to driveat his own expense. “I’ve always been brave. I have always worked. And I’m comfortable in my car. »
But the turnover of this independent worker has only decreased. “At first, I worked eight to ten hours a day. Since then, I have been spending fourteen to sixteen hours for €200 a day. I don’t want to give up my health for hips. »
He refers to the platform system as a trap. “Young driver, we give him a lot of rides. We are burying him alive. Then, after a few months, he has fewer races and starts to feel cheated. » Haykel raises the question of the “massive appropriation of the professional card” and demands, in addition to a better salary, limited access to the profession.
