Foreign media such as the Associated Press reported that Quincy Jones, a great figure in the American pop music industry, passed away on the 3rd (local time) at the age of 91.

According to reports, Jones’s publicist, Arnold Robinson, said that Jones died at his home in Los Angeles that night, surrounded by his family.

His family said in a statement that his death was “a tremendous loss for our family, but we celebrate the great life he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones’ exact cause of death is unknown.

Jones is considered a versatile music producer, composer, and film and TV program producer representing the 20th century.

In particular, he produced ‘Off The Wall’, ‘Thriller’, and ‘Bad’, which are considered masterpieces of the ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson.

He also created ‘USA for Africa’, which includes the song ‘We Are the World’ for African relief.

Born in Chicago in 1933, he moved to Washington state with his father after his parents divorced and began his career as a musician in his teens.

At the age of 14, he played the trumpet in a band with legendary musician Ray Charles at a club in Seattle, and then moved to Boston and New York to expand his musical world.

He met Frank Sinatra in 1958 and worked with him until his last album, ‘LA Is My Lady’, in 1984. He further gained fame by working on albums by other famous jazz artists such as Clifford Brown and Duke Ellington.

In addition to being a producer, he was active in many fields, including producing musicals, film scores, and TV programs.

In particular, he achieved success by co-producing the movie ‘The Color Purple’ with Steven Spielberg in 1985. There is also a famous anecdote in which he personally cast Oprah Winfrey, who was working as a talk show host in Chicago at the time, as an actress.

Based on the success of ‘The Color Purple’, he founded ‘Quincy Jones Entertainment’, a film and TV program production company, in 1990.

The 148-episode sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ produced by this production company is one of his biggest box office hits. This work is also the acting debut of Will Smith, who was active as a rapper.

He also founded the media company ‘Qwest Broadcasting’, and in 1993, he collaborated with the American magazine Time to launch the black music magazine ‘Vibe’.

Jones has been nominated for the Grammy Award 80 times, the third most after Beyoncé and Jay Z (88 each). Among them, 28 times he received the honor of award.

He also won an Emmy Award for ‘Roots’, which depicts the lives of black slaves and their descendants, and twice received an Honorary Academy Award.

He was married three times and had seven children. Actress Rashida Jones is also one of his daughters.
