November 4, 2024 | (rsn) – After two years at Lotto – Kern Haus, Ole Theiler moved to Storck – Metropol last winter in order to recommend himself as captain for a professional team in his last U23 year. Although he was able to win a race in the Cycling Bundesliga during the course of the season, he also narrowly missed out on a really big coup at the Tour de l’Avenir. But as things stand, the results weren’t enough for a professional contract.

The 22-year-old will leave Storck – Metropol after one season and, according to information from RSN, continue his career at continental level at rad-net – Sauerland. However, Theiler himself did not want to confirm this.

While he avoided speaking to RSN about his future, Theiler readily looked back on the 2024 season. His conclusion was “mediocre”. A mirror image was the Tour de l’Avenir. In the most important U23 tour, he took second place on the second stage after a strong performance behind his fellow escapee Ludovico Crescioli (Italy).

“I look back on this result with both a laughing and a crying eye. Even though it was the biggest success of my career so far, I can’t be as happy about it as it suggests,” said Theiler, who did practically all the leading work in the final to ensure that he and his companion made it to the front of the field would make it to the finish.

Crescioli, on the other hand, held back and won in the end, even though he had made it clear to Theiler at times that he would let the German go first. The man who had just been beaten was correspondingly angry after the race.

Only a little later Theiler was still able to celebrate. At the Sauerland Tour he repeated his previous victory in an impressive manner. He secured his favorite race with a clear 3:37 minutes lead over former professional Paul Voß. “The victory in Sauerland meant a lot to me because I was able to win one of the most beautiful races in Germany for the second time in a row,” said Theiler, who also came fourth in the U23 championships at the U23 DM and took fifth place in the time trial .

Have fun at the gravel races

At the European and World Championships he provided reliable assistance to the German national team before heading to the Gravel World Championships at the end of the season, where he took 82nd place when Mathieu van der Poel won. “I really enjoyed the gravel races and I still see a lot of potential in this discipline. Next year I would like to do a few more races. “But I can’t really focus on that yet,” says Theiler.

Even though his big plans at Storck – Metropol didn’t work out, he still looks back fondly on his time with the third division team. “In every team there are advantages and disadvantages. But I gained many new experiences and impressions. Some of the boys have become friends for life,” concluded Theiler.
