Lisa Kerschbaumer shows how real food becomes an important “fighting technique” in her first children’s book. The nutritionist wants to use “Carrot Kid against the chocolate villains”. Wopfing (Wiener Neustadt district) show which foods we can get energy from and what weakens us.
“I became aware of the importance of healthy eating very early on,” says the 36-year-old, who focuses on the Advice of babies, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers and now wants to pass on her knowledge in a humorous way.
Super strength recipes
Her story is intended for “children and adults from six to 99 years old”. The protagonist, Karottekid, trains to become stronger and reveals powerful recipes and foods that are supposed to give superpowers to young and old readers. The colorful illustrations come from advertising artist Ulrich Enge from Wöllersdorf.
“It has always been my wish to write a book for children,” says Kerschbaumer. “My husband actually came up with the name, and I came up with the story.”
What is it about? Karottekid Moves with Mama Parsnipe to Grandma Rote Beet and Grandpa Erdapfel in the city. On the first day of school, sugar cubes are thrown at him because no one wants anything to do with the healthy vegetables. One of Karottekid’s new neighbors, Mr. Kohlrabi, introduces himself as a martial arts teacher and promises to train him for a tournament between vegetables and sweets.
The reader learns why fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts are so valuable for the body.
