1 in 4 Belgians do not go to their dentist every year

Costs related to dental care

Nearly three-quarters (73%) of those surveyed go at least once a year for a dental exam. 13% do less often and 14% do not go Never. The main reasons are the cost (33%), long waiting lists (28%) and the feeling that such an appointment is not not necessary (28 %).

A quarter of them have delayed at least one exam or a treatment over the last two years. One in three families has a supplementary dental insurance.

€35 for checks, €58 for fillings

For a classic check, we generally pay 35 € from our pocket and 58 € for a filling, be good more than the official prices.

At an approved dentist, the copayment (i.e. the part you pay) for a check-up is only €4et for a filling from €12.50 to €18.50 (€6.50 to €9.50 as part of the oral care routethat is to say if you go to your annual check-up), possibly supplemented by a supplement of €3.50 to €5.

Note in passing that people who do not go to the dentist at least once a year no longer fall under the oral care route – they are excludedand are therefore less good reimbursed for routine treatments such as plombages or the descaling. Therefore, people whose financial situation is precarious and who, as a result, postpone dental care, will see their bill increasing afterwards.
