MOSCOW – Military success Russia more recently in special operations zones it has been associated with the use of ‘multi-level’ attack tactics.

However, there is no such specific military term, experts told Sputnik, offering their vision of what the strategy means.

“The Russian military forces have effectively used a strategy called integrated systemic attack,” as military expert and retired colonel Anatoly Matviychuk explained in an interview with Sputnik.

This approach, which journalists called a “cascading” attack, combined “coordinated fire attacks based on time and space with ground attacks aimed at the rear and flanks of the enemy,” he said.

“Such tactics combine strikes aimed at the enemy’s firepower, supporting defenses and control systems behind and on the flanks,” said the expert with experience in combat operations. in Afghanistan and Syria.

Before using such tactics, the Russian forces managed to launch a frontal attack against the enemy, the expert said, but this was fraught with personnel losses.

“Now, this strategy allows the Russian military to strategically isolate the enemy, which then develops or threatens to become a full-scale encirclement. And they have two options : surrender or die,” said Matviychuk.

He recalled that such tactics were used during the Ugledar attack, and in recent developments in the south of Donetsk. After success on the battlefield he opened the way to Pokrovsk, west of the Donetsk People’s Region. Republic, Russia systematically relies on such tactics.
