The first president of the USA Liza Simpson as an analogy with Kamala Harris?
The American series The Simpsons is a phenomenon. In all directions. His fans even claim that the creators of the series are visionaries and can predict the future. On the occasion of the 2024 US presidential election, the 17th episode of the 11th season called Bart to the Future, which was first broadcast by the American television station Fox on March 19, 2000, is attracting a lot of attention.
In this work, 38-year-old Liza Simpson will become the first female president of the United States. And she is wearing the same purple suit, pearl necklace and pearl earrings as Kamala Harris, when she took the oath as the incoming vice president at the inauguration of the then new US president Joe Biden in January 2021, and who is currently the Democratic candidate for the US president.
For the record, President Liza Simpson is sitting in the White House in the Oval Office in the episode Don’t Argue with the Future, where she tells her team that they “inherited a significant budget deficit from President Trump” and must deal with these debts and deficits.
The 2000 episode of Don’t Fight the Future is also famous for predicting the presidency of real estate mogul Donald Trump, who was elected to office on November 8, 2016.
This episode was created during Trump’s third-place candidacy in 2000, and in 2015 the world media cited it as a harbinger of Trump’s future candidacy for the US presidency. The Simpsons screenwriter Dan Greaney in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2016 he noted that the idea of a Trump presidency at the time “seemed like the logical last stop before hitting rock bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with a vision of America gone mad.’
“The important thing was that Lisa is taking over the presidency at a time when America is in crisis — and that’s the state that the Trump presidency leaves here. We wanted Liza to deal with problems that are no longer in her power to fix, that everything went as wrong as it could – that’s why we made Trump the president,” said series writer Dan Greaney in 2016.
The Simpsons hit the spot. Several times already
Fans point out that The Simpsons, which first aired on Fox on December 17, 1989, predicted some other significant events in addition to Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election. Which one is it specifically?
Legalization of marijuana in Canada
In a 2005 episode of Midnight Rx, the show’s creators toyed with the idea of legalizing marijuana in Canada. Homer and his gang make it to Canada where marijuana is legal – at the time it was an allusion meant to act as a satirical comment on Canada’s liberal politics. However, in 2018, this vision came true when Canada became one of the first countries in the world to completely legalize the use of marijuana, even for recreational purposes.
The coronavirus pandemic
A 1993 episode of The Simpsons called Marge in Chains featured a storyline in which the residents of Springfield faced the Osaka Flu. This virus originates in Japan, and within a few scenes we see how quickly and uncontrollably it spreads among the local population, leading to panic and an overload of medical services. These scenes are too reminiscent of the covid pandemic that broke out in 2019 and affected the world.
Beyond the virus itself, the episode illustrates the spread of misinformation and fear among the people of Springfield. People resort to desperate solutions and believe in rumors and unproven treatment methods. In addition, the episode features a scene with packages that carry the virus, which many see as a parallel to concerns about the transmission of the coronavirus on surfaces during the pandemic.
The invention of the smart watch
In the 1995 episode Lisa’s Wedding, Lisa Simpson‘s fiance receives calls on a device similar to today’s smart watch. At the time, the concept seemed like a figment of the imagination, but in 2015 it became a reality with the advent of the Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch and other smartwatches.
Communication via online video call
The 1995 episode Liza’s Wedding further features a scene in which Liza talks to Marge via video call, a technology that was more of a sci-fi fantasy at the time. Today, thanks to applications such as Skype, Zoom or FaceTime, video calls are a common part of our lives.
Using virtual reality glasses
In the 2016 episode Friends and Family, The Simpsons introduced characters using virtual reality glasses that bear a striking resemblance to the Apple Vision Pro launched in the year 2024. In this episode, the residents of Springfield wear virtual and augmented reality headsets, anticipating future developments in this area.
Game of Thrones series finale
In the 2017 episode of The Simpsons called The Serfsons, the creators parodied the series Game of Thrones. In this episode, the dragon is shown burning down the entire city, which is similar to the events of the Game of Thrones series finale, where the dragon Drogon destroys King’s Landing. This similarity led fans to believe that The Simpsons predicted the end of the popular fantasy series, which was not filmed until 2019.
Horse meat in burgers
The 1994 episode Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadasssss Song describes how horse meat is prepared in the school cafeteria. This satirical moment foreshadowed the 2013 scandal when some meat products marketed as beef were found to contain horsemeat. The scandal also affected the Burger King chain in Great Britain.

Can the Simpsons predict the future?
The Simpsons seem to have an uncanny knack for “predicting” the future, but it’s mostly coincidence rather than true visionary. “When you’ve been on the air for thirty years, chances are you’re going to get hit every now and then,” she explained for Entertainment Tonight magazine Yeardley Smith, who voices Liza Simpson in the original.
“Sure, there are a few cases where The Simpsons actually predicted something. This is mainly because some episodes are so old that history has had time to repeat itself. Most of them are based on things that were current at the time they aired or even before,” The Simpsons writer Bill Oakley wrote on Twitter.
