“Shipwreck, shame, very insufficient performance”. Rennes coach Julien Stephan castigated the behavior of his team “worthy of the bottom of the table”, Sunday in Auxerre where Stade Rennais sank (4-0) against AJA during the tenth day of the League 1, and assured that he “had the energy to continue”.
“Tonight, it’s a disaster, a feeling of shame towards our leaders and our supporters, until the end of the meeting,” he complained.
“We saw nothing from us in the first half, no risk-taking and no intensity in the duels. We had identified what awaited us. I made three changes at the start of the second half. We could have done more if the regulations had allowed it,” he confided.
“I have the energy to continue fighting”
“Afterwards, at 3-0, the match changed and the result became logical. There was a very big gap between our work this week and what we saw this evening (Sunday). Our performance was very insufficient,” he continued before moving on to questions concerning his future on the Rennes bench.
“I have the energy to continue fighting and turn this team around. We have to be realistic about what we have produced. This is worthy of a team at the bottom of the table, not the top of the table. We really didn’t do the right thing. It’s a very big disappointment. I hope that my team will be able to progress mentally and aggressively, it is essential,” concluded Julien Stéphan.
