Exciting News: 343 Industries Becomes Halo Studios, Transitioning to Unreal Engine 5 – Is a New Halo Game on the Horizon?

We recently reported on major changes at 343 Industries, which not only has brand new management and is changing its name to Halo Studios – but also changing its game engine.

Instead of developing Halo games with their own Slipspace Engine, Halo Studios in the future will use Unreal Engine 5. And it is in that light that we read the cryptic X post written by the German journalist Klobrille very well reliable the other day.

He noticed that a Sledgehammer Games employee wrote through his LinkedIn that they are currently working on a “unexpected” games with Unreal Engine 5. So why is this so interesting?

Well, since Sledgehammer Games is a Call of Duty studio, which uses the proprietary game engine IW 9.0 (or modified versions of it), for example in the released Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Sledgehammer itself used the same engine in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III last year. In addition, we can not say that Sledgehammer Games making a new Call of Duty is considered “unexpected”?

So what Klobrille seems to be implying is that this Call of Duty developer, now owned by Microsoft, is working on a new Halo. A Halo game built by Call of Duty developers is very exciting, but it remains to be seen if the data is real or if the project will come to fruition.

However, we note that the LinkedIn post was quickly removed when this came to light, which often means it was something we didn’t expect to see. What do you think and feel about it?
