Brazil / global meeting on education: Mariatou Koné presents the Ivorian model in terms of finance – Abidjan.net News

From October 31 to November 1, 2024 in Fortaleza, Brazil, the Global Education Meeting 2024 will build on the conclusions of the event entitled Accelerating progress towards SDG 4: Taking stock of formative actions -change in education organized on June 17, 2024 at UNESCO Headquarters by the High-Level Steering Committee for SDG 4.

This aimed to define strategies aimed at increasing investments in the education sector, but above all to encourage multilateral, interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder communication recognizing the role of education as a factor of social equality and as a driver for sustainable development.

Present in Brazil, in her role as a member of the high-level steering committee for SDG 4, the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mariatou Koné, participated in two panels, related to Education funding and innovative funding half

These were marked by the presence of the UNESCO Deputy Director General in charge of Education, Ms. Stefania Giannini. Presenting the Ivorian model, she pointed out that Côte d’Ivoire has chosen quality education for all, that large investments are being made by the Ivorian Government.

As a result, 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 22% of the national budget are allocated to the Education sector. She presented two important documents, namely the Education Department Plan and the recommendations from the General States of National Education and Literacy (EGENA), which identified four main priorities and forty-two transformative levers.

And clearly defining the financial resources that will be put in both internally and externally from technical and financial partners. In order to further improve the quality of the education system, an innovative funding policy was implemented.

This includes the transfer of resources from bilateral and multilateral partners, the Debt Reduction and Development Contract (C2D) funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), the public-private partnership with the cocoa industries and many others. This is how the CLEF (Children’s Learning and Education Resource) initiative works.

It is also the Impact Multiplier Fund of the Global Partnership for Education and results-based financing, “P for R”, which allows Côte d’Ivoire to benefit from funding every time it achieves its educational goals .
