/ world today news/ A schedule for gradually increasing the excise tax on cigarettes is being considered, and most likely this will happen from 2015, and not from next year.
By 2018, Bulgaria must reach the new EU minimum rates of 90 euros per 1,000 pieces. The excise duty on cigarettes is currently 23% of the selling price plus a fixed value of BGN 101 per 1,000 cigarettes.
The smooth schedule aims for no shock increase in cigarettes, and for a pack to increase in price by about 20 cents per year on average. The proposal for a gradual lifting of the excise duty was made last week to the deputies of the budget committee by Petar Ganev from the Institute for Market Economy. It was also supported by the major importers and manufacturers of cigarettes, writes “24 Chasa”.
Bulgaria turns out to have the highest price of parcels among the EU countries, according to a reference in the public registers. In 6 EU countries, including France, England and others, there is no parcel. In 9 countries, its price is borne by the government, and in another 3 it is included in the excise tax.
Of the nine countries where the package is paid by the producers, in Bulgaria the price is record high – 6.1 euros per 1000 pieces. Next year, the price of the parcels is expected to increase by about 10%.
