Lions vs. Packers Betting Preview
Detroit Lions Betting News and Analysis
No NFL team is playing better than Detroit right now. This offense had high expectations this season and has somewhat exceeded them in recent weeks, with Jared Goff playing at an MVP level over the last month.
Here are Goff’s numbers over his last four games, with Detroit averaging 43 points per game:
- 70 of 83 passing (completion percentage: 84.3), 11.7 yards per attempt
- 972 yards, 10 TDs, 0 interceptions, 13 sacks
It’s not just Detroit’s passing game, but it also rumbles. The Lions have rushed for 139 yards or more in six of seven games this year and haven’t done it once, when they scored 42 points in Week 4 in Seattle.
If there’s a weakness for Detroit, it’s on the D-line following a season-ending foot injury to star DE Aidan Hutchinson in a 47-9 Week 6 win over Dallas. The Lions struggled to stop Minnesota on a tight two-game winning streak. a week ago, but played much better last week, albeit against a bad Tennessee offense.
Still, while the recent loss of not only Hutchinson but also speedy WR Jameson Williams (suspended) is tough, Detroit is getting contributions from its entire roster, including a special teams day for the books last week over the Titans.
Khalif Raymond returned a punt for a touchdown in that win, and the Lions also had a 70-yard punt return by Khalil Dorsey. That explains why Detroit managed to score 52 points on a day when they threw for just 85 yards on 15 attempts.
Green Bay Packers Betting News and Analysis
For the Packers, it all starts with QB Jordan Love, who has battled injuries this season but played well when available. Love left last Sunday’s win over the Jaguars with an injury, and backup Malik Willis returned to play enough for Green Bay.
The Packers expect Love to be the starting lineup in this gamebut his mobility may be limited by his groin injury.
Green Bay’s only two losses this year were against Philadelphia in Week 1 and Minnesota in Week 4 by big scores. The Packers will need another big day to beat Detroit this afternoon.
Green Bay’s defense is playing much better this season than it did a year ago under first-year offensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. However, this unit hasn’t seen a counterattack like Detroit’s.
If there is one area that will help the Green Bay defense in this game, it is the pass rush. Goff is a poker player who has struggled with pressure throughout his career and has been sacked eight times in the last two weeks.
That’s great news for Preston Smith, Rashaan Gary and the rest of Green Bay’s front seven, because if Goff has time to throw, someone will be open to any play thanks to the creative scheme that offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has implemented.
Lions vs Packers Prediction
Sometimes a simple, chalky shot is just right. This seems like a great example of that. Detroit is doing too much at a high level to bet against them right now, even in a tough road game against a quality opponent.
The Lions are the league’s leading scoring team and stopping them could be even more difficult than their NFL-best 33.4 points per game suggests. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery form the NFL’s best 1-2 at RB, and the Lions have two dangerous pass catchers in WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and TE Sam LaPorta. This team has too many weapons that not even a defense as solid as Green Bay’s can stop consistently.
Give us Detroit to laugh one last time in an unforgettable back-and-forth battle.
The best bet for Lions vs. Packers
Both offenses are playing so well right now that Over feels like a dunk. We also like the Lions as 2.5-point favorites.
