The General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, led by Dr. Menen Abdel Maqsoud, Secretary-General of the Secretariat, made a site visit for the delegation of the African Center for Disease Control and Control (African CDC) of the African Union, both in the Abbasiya Hospital for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment and the Imbaba. According to the statement, the visit was aimed at enhancing the abilities of future generations of specialists and experts in various fields of public health, and enable them to develop sustainable and future plans for public health in the direction of within the African continent. The trip also included a review of Egypt’s expertise in the field of psychiatry in its various specialties, such as women’s health, addiction treatment, child and adolescent psychiatry, and forensic medicine.

The visiting program included an inspection of the “Beit Al-Shams” clinics and outpatient clinics that provide women’s health services at the Al-Abbasiya Hospital for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment. The delegation continued their visit to the Imbaba Addiction Rehabilitation and Treatment Hospital, where they viewed the recreation and leisure department, patient rooms, the harm reduction unit that provides opioid substitution treatment programs , and the hospital’s outpatient clinics.

Dr. Menen Abdel Maqsoud explained that the visit included a presentation on women’s mental health services in the city’s hospitals and how these services should be integrated into different health departments. She also mentioned the training project in collaboration with the Royal College of England, and with the support of UNICEF, on reproductive mental health and how it was used in several presidential initiatives related to the mother and the fetus.

She said that the child and adolescent psychiatric clinics include 15 units and 4 internal departments, with a plan to expand in collaboration with international organizations. He also provided knowledge on the “Fasil” program, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, to be distributed in schools.

She highlighted the ministry’s role in fighting and treating addiction, which includes providing technical reports on new narcotics through the National Addiction Observatory, and organizing awareness campaigns such as the “More Appreciate Than Others” and “Eid Than Others” campaigns to prevent relapse. in those who are recovering during the holidays.
