They didn’t make the trip for nothing. Saturday October 26, around fifteen participants from the Shoshin Carcassonne kendo club went to Montpellier to participate in a regional course. As part of the latter, around 120 kendokas came from the great south of France to compete.

At the end of this day, five members of the structure from the prefectural town of Aude were awarded the success of their grade passage. During an event that the club describes as “stressful”, Zeyneb (16 years old), Océane (18 years old), Anaïs (36 years old), Jean-Claude (59 years old) won their first dan. Or the judo equivalent of a black belt. For the last one, Steven (28 years old), he managed to obtain the 3rd dan after demonstrating his skills.

Océane, also a participant in this course despite a visual deficit, managed to pass her first dan. “During the exam, she was accompanied on the combat area by members of the Montpellier club with great kindness. This put her in good conditions to be able to express her kendo with strength and determination. The jury judged that she had perfectly fulfilled the criteria for success”specified Gilles Vessillier, president of Shoshin Carcassonne.

For his part, Jacques Denys, a teacher who accompanied the students for several months, congratulated them: “The way of kendo is a path where, through learning how to use the sword, we progress together to become better men and women.”

The president took over to clearly express his appreciation and greet the other members of the club: “Supporter, photographer, nurse sometimes and moral support in times of difficulty.”
