After a week of intense searching, the missing couple in their 80s from Mjölby were found dead in the woods north-east of Boxholm. The couple disappeared when they were on a mushroom trip, and it was when their car was found that the main investigation began.
Days passed and it was during the third search effort on Saturday, led by Missing People, that two bodies were found. They were later identified by police as the missing couple.
“They were found in the search area and no crime is suspected,” police wrote on their website. Next of kin have been notified.
Below the top of the rock
Mission director for Missing Persons, Lotta Klang Bergström, now tells SVT Nyheter Öst about how the couple was found.
– It was a terrible environment in which they were found. The research area had every type of terrain you can imagine, says Lotta.
The bodies were close to each other under a rock slab, or precipice, whose height Lotta estimates to be between 10 and 15 meters.
– This was the first time we went into that part of the forest and very quickly we found them.
Now the quest has been completed by Missing People. Lotta Klang Bergström talks about the relief they succeeded in finding.
– It feels great that we were able to give some kind of closure to the family, she says.
Police suspect an accident
The attempt to remove the bodies from the place where they were found was completed later in the evening. The police are now working on the idea that it is a tragic accident. But the bodies are going to forensics where the answers can become clearer.
