Gonzo and N LITE unveil 2 animated projects starring Spider-Man

New projects from N LITE in collaboration with GONZO

Entertainment portal Variety has announced that N LITE is working on two exciting new projects together with animation studio GONZO and Peter Ramsey, co-director of “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse”. These are the noir thriller “Ripper” and the sci-fi adventure series “Hotaru”. Both projects combine innovative storytelling techniques and visual styles to appeal to a wide audience.

“Ripper”: A noir thriller set in post-war Japan

“Ripper” is envisioned as a live-action/animation hybrid film set in post-war Japan. The plot revolves around two detectives who hunt down a serial killer who has killed the women they loved. Peter Ramsey is attached to the project as executive producer and screenplay co-writer. The story highlights the shared experiences of Black and Japanese people during World War II and aims to portray this unique cultural intersection on film.

“Hotaru”: An intergalactic adventure

The second project, “Hotaru,” is a sci-fi/fantasy series described by N LITE as “an adventurous series about two magically gifted warriors bonded by love and grief.” Peter Ramsey is also involved here as executive producer. The series promises a mix of exciting narrative and visually impressive animation that takes audiences on an intergalactic journey.

My opinion on N LITE’s new projects

The new projects from N LITE and GONZO raise high expectations and could bring a breath of fresh air to the animation and film industry. In particular, the cultural depth of “Ripper” and the visual splendor of “Hotaru” have the potential to stand out from the crowd. It is exciting to see how Afro-anime and the narration of previously little-explored historical perspectives are implemented in these productions. I’m excited to see whether these projects can successfully bring the diversity and creativity they promise to the screen and look forward to the audience’s reaction. What do you think about the combination of historical themes and modern animation?
