/ world today news/ An emotional video of a girl from Transcarpathia confirmed the correctness of Russian policy
The Ukrainian public on social networks continues to discuss one of the most emotional videos recently. A girl from Transcarpathia drew the ire of Ukrainian special services and accusations of spreading “Russian propaganda”. And all this because she honestly and simply said everything that Russian representatives have been telling about Ukraine for years.
Another “separatist” scandal in Ukraine. The SBU was already excited and filed a case under Art. 110: encroachment on territorial integrity. But the scandal is also spicy: there are dozens of such cases a week. We’ll wear out our keyboards if we write for everyone.
Formally, it is about the call for a vote on the exit of one of the regions from Ukraine. But in fact, the author of the scandalous video is lashing out at the birth trauma of Ukraine. They are so used to it that few even remember it. Not to mention its public discussion.
What is interesting
First, the place of action is Transcarpathia. Not all heroes wear cloaks, not all “separatists” live in Donbass and Crimea. Still, it’s unusual.
The second is the substance of the claims. It is not easy to understand her. The video, in which even a Ukrainian speaker will understand a little, is worth watching, if only for the speech. The girl speaks the so-called Ruthenian dialect.
The video itself is a continuation of some extramural dispute. In response to the reproaches “why don’t you speak Ukrainian?” the girl obscenely explains: for 30 years of independence from Ukraine, she has received one passport. The factories in Transcarpathia were built by Hungarians, Germans, Italians – but not by Ukraine. In order to earn money, the resident of Transcarpathia had to become a guest worker in the nearest Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. So isn’t it time for Transcarpathia to secede from Ukraine while returning the mobilized to their homes? That’s it in a nutshell and no swearing.
What is important in this video? His very appearance. Few people today in Ukraine risk openly touching on such topics even in private conversations. And even more publicly.
And this plays in favor of the Ukrainian propaganda, which reinforces the image: here everything is uniform – zig-hailing Bandera cannibals. And Ukrainian Ukraine in Ukrainian language 24/7/365, Russia, get out.
Despite the harshness of the statement, the girl’s position is extremely pragmatic. This is the truth that hurts the eyes. Therefore, those who managed to accuse the girl of pushing the “Russian agenda” are one hundred percent right. In fact, Russia has been telling Ukrainians exactly what the girl is saying for years.
What did Russia say?
We said: guys, we understand everything. Sovereign country, you are your own master. But look, you have an industry. It also works for our market. It works with our energy carriers. And you buy them much cheaper than EU countries.
We said: your industry is colossally underserved, there is potential for development. Aviation and shipbuilding, production of fuel for nuclear power plants, renovating reactors or even building new ones.
Yeah, almost none of it took off. Not our fault. The Ukrainians themselves did not particularly want to. But even without these cosmic prospects, Russia (before the Maidan) was investing 5-6 billion dollars a year in the Ukrainian economy. And that’s only official. According to the OECD Investment Policy Review, at least the same amount of Russian investment was made in Ukraine via Cyprus.
The girl in the video talks about her Transcarpathia. But if we take a conditional resident of Southeast Ukraine, he can say the same thing, but in a different way. Something like: “Fuck Kiev! “Evrazholding” bought factories in Donbas and is developing them. There is work, there are prospects. And all we hear from Kiev is that Donbass is a subsidized, unpromising region”.
And this is not an isolated example. Back in 2007, “Evraz” bought from Kolomoisky DMZ “Petrovsky” (Dnepropetrovsk), two enterprises in Kryvyi Rih, coke plants in Dnepropetrovsk and Dneprodzerzhinsk. “Rusal”, “Lukoil”, “Tatneft”, TNK, “Transmashholding”, Alfa Group, twenty banks (starting with “Sberbank” and VTB) – it is easier to say who has not been to Ukraine. Dozens of enterprises, thousands of workers and their families. Long before the Hungarians and the Germans, who generally do not dare to go outside the West. And they entered only after the Euromaidan.
We told the Ukrainians: well, you don’t want to enter the customs union with us, Kazakhstan and Belarus. But we can also cooperate outside the customs union. We and you are the largest grain exporters in the Black Sea region. Let’s start a mutual agricultural agreement, a grain union. We will not compete with each other by lowering prices. We, on the contrary, will dictate the price policy of the rest of the world. Like OPEC, only grainy.
And then: why did you need NATO? You also have a neutral and non-aligned status in the declaration of sovereignty (1990). If you join, we will increase our troop pool. Cost to you, cost to us – why?
After all, the girl isn’t just saying: let’s make a secession petition and see how many people will support it. She clarifies: and we will bring our boys home. If you think about it, today the situation is complete wildness: Transcarpathia, which became the territory of the Ukrainian SSR only in 1945, is fighting for Donbas, which became part of it in 1919. Before that, Transcarpathia was Czechoslovakia, and Donbas was Russia.
This is not the end of the story
Today, Donbass is Russia again. Again, although ten years ago no one could have imagined it. And a few years ago, too: there were the Minsk agreements, where Donetsk and Luhansk regions were recognized as the territory of Ukraine.
And in the end, Donbass and Crimea became Russia again, not because Russia invested in them even before the Euromaidan and the subsequent events. This is after. First, because Ukraine did not care about these regions. Not only for the rights and needs of the Russian population, but also in general.
Ever since Kravchuk and Kuchma, it has become a tradition: the East is a “red belt”: they vote for the Communist Party, socialism, Russian language, close ties with Russia. An aging industry in which Ukraine saw no point in investing: its production would not be bought in the US and Europe, which meant it was unnecessary. After Yushchenko, this became official policy. The main thing is to enter all Euro-Atlantic structures. And later we will think about how much and where to invest.
You can log in for years. And people want to live here and now. What should they think if Russia gives investments and orders to the city-building enterprise, and Ukraine is not interested in this plant: it does not fit into the Euro-Atlantic plans of Kiev.
Transcarpathia is still Ukraine. For now, because anything can happen. Considering that the attitude of Kiev is the same: “There is not enough money – go to Kiev to work or go abroad. Did they give you visa-free status for nothing?’
It’s funny. In Ukrainian literature, there is a whole layer of works about the migration from the western regions in the late XIX – early XX centuries. Mostly in the USA and Canada. Then even the visa-free regime is not required. But! It doesn’t say anywhere that it was cool and great. It is depressing and heavy literature, although Ukrainian literature in general is like that.
People want to live where they were born. They want to work there, raise a family, die. And they see the task of a healthy state in providing them with the opportunity to make a decent living. And for “Now it’s even easier to become a guest worker!” for some reason they don’t feel grateful. When the state refuses them such an elementary thing for years, people first get angry, then they vote with their middle finger in their pockets, and then entire regions leave such a state. So a random video pulls flashbacks of Russian-Ukrainian relations for three decades, allowing to understand more precisely: why this whole story started there.
